Word Play Speech Therapy is offering speech\/language and motor screenings to children ages 2 through 6 years on August 18th, 2026.  (If you would also like a speech\/language screening you must schedule that separately.) \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eA screening provides a short “snapshot” of information about your child’s motor skills and is not a substitute for a full evaluation. Screenings help determine if a child should be referred for further evaluation. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMotor screenings are recommended for children who:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eToe walk\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eAre hesitant on playground equipment or bounce houses\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eDon't alternate feet walking down the stairs\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eHave difficulty catching or throwing a ball\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eCan't cut in a straight line with scissors\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eSwitch preferred hands\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eHave trouble putting puzzle pieces together\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eStruggle with zippers, buttons and other fasteners\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eHave difficulty with writing letters and numbers\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eHold writing utensils with a thumbs up or fisted grasp\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eTires quickly or avoids coloring\/drawing\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eNeed an adult's help to open containers \u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAt the end of the screening, your occupational therapist will provide an immediate recommendation.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\n\u003ci\u003e\u003c\/i\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\n\u003ci\u003ePlease note, if your child currently has a diagnosis, IEP or previous therapy, your child is not eligible for a screening. Screenings are only useful to determine if a child needs a full evaluation.
